Power Play InformationThe main aim of the Power Play option is that all players are being challenged and enjoying the game. Power Play is available through all mini soccer football formats 5v5 and 7v7.How does the Power Play rule work?When the goal difference in a match reaches 4, the losing team may field an additional player. If the goal difference reaches 5, they may field another, taking the total to two additional players. If the goal difference then falls to 5, the losing team must withdraw one of their additional players; when it falls to 3, they must withdraw the final additional player (this does not have to be the same player who came on as the extra).In practice, that means a 5v5 match can temporarily become a 7v5, and a 7v7 can become a 9v7, until the losing side claws the deficit back. Referees and coaches manage the substitutions between passages of play, and because the rule only applies at under-7 to under-11 level — where results are not officially recorded in league tables — there is no competitive incentive to resist it.Div Secs need to be advised that Power Play has been used.What coaches do instead — and why it often falls shortTo even things out without the rule, some coaches set their own team challenges instead — focusing on skills such as using the weaker foot, playing one-touch, practising multiple-touch turns, or requiring every player to have at least one or two touches before anyone is allowed to shoot. Details on Power Play– If a team is losing by a four-goal difference, they can put an additional player on so 5v5 becomes 6v5.– If the score returns to less than a four goal difference the team takes off a player. 💙 Alan Knight MBE — Remembering the man behind “The Legend” 💙There will be thousands of Pompey fans today sharing their memories of Alan Knight the goalkeeper.They will remember the incredible saves, the loyalty, the promotions and the astonishing 801 appearances for Portsmouth Football Club between 1978 and 2000 — a record that made him the goalkeeper with the most appearances for a single English club. Unfortunately, because of the ages of those of us who run this page, we weren't fortunate enough to experience those years ourselves.But perhaps that gives us an opportunity to pay tribute to something even more important.Alan Knight the man.And what an incredible man he was.Kind. Caring. Generous with his time. Someone who always seemed to be thinking about what he could do for somebody else.After his playing career finished, Alan didn't simply disappear from Portsmouth. If anything, his relationship with this city became even stronger.He became a fantastic ambassador for Portsmouth Football Club and was constantly giving his time to charities, community organisations and good causes. His work included supporting young people, education, addiction recovery and mental health. And that is something we think deserves to be remembered just as much as anything he achieved between the posts.There will be people across Portsmouth who aren't football supporters and never saw Alan Knight make a single save.But they knew Alan.They met him because he turned up to their charity event.They spoke to him at a community event.Their child met him at something he was supporting.They had a photograph with him.Sometimes he was there representing Portsmouth Football Club. Other times, he was simply there because someone had asked for his support and Alan wanted to help.He gave people his time — and he did it over and over again.And whether you were a lifelong Pompey supporter who regarded him as your childhood hero or someone who couldn't tell you the first thing about football, Alan treated people exactly the same.That's why you will struggle to find anyone who met him with a bad word to say about him.He represented the very best of Portsmouth.Our football club is supposed to be about more than 90 minutes on a Saturday afternoon. It's about community, belonging, family and looking after one another.Alan understood that.He lived it.His contribution was recognised with an MBE in 2001, and later with one of the greatest honours our city could possibly give him — the Freedom of the City of Portsmouth. Nobody deserved it more.There is also a much more personal reason why Alan will always mean so much to this page.As our page grew, we wanted to use the platform to bring people together and do some good. We started organising charity events and football matches, hoping we could raise some money for people and causes that needed it.Alan supported us every single time.He didn't have to.But that was Alan.Over the years, those events helped raise tens of thousands of pounds for charity, and Alan played his part in making that possible.Many of you reading this will have been at those events.You'll have seen Alan there.Some of you will have spoken to him, laughed with him, shaken his hand or had your photograph taken with him.Those are memories that suddenly feel even more precious today.And even when Alan faced one of the biggest battles of his own life, his instinct was still to think about other people. After being diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, he spoke publicly about what he was going through in the hope that other men would recognise the symptoms, seek medical advice and potentially save lives. That tells you everything about the man.Even when he was the one who needed everyone's support, Alan was still trying to help somebody else.Football will remember the records.Portsmouth Football Club will remember the 801 appearances.The history books will make sure the name Alan Knight is never forgotten.But Portsmouth will remember something else too.The warmth of the man behind The Legend.A goalkeeper who became a symbol of loyalty.A footballer who became a champion of his community.And a man who gave so much of himself to the club, the charities and the city he came to call home.
